Surface Zine is an independent magazine that brings together artists who choose materials for their enticing tactile appeal, looking at design and fine art in conversation with each other and bringing audiences into discussions across commercial and more temporal spheres. Often considering art objects as marketed commodity items, artists throughout mimic the way colours and textures in consumer experience can seduce consumers, appealing to their basic desire for pleasing aesthetic forms. Both seduced and critically aware, the AW15 issue is an examination of our materialistic culture. Themes of analogue versus digital are explored through texture, implicating a tactility within the paper-based format.
